Affordable short performance videos

Bands and Artists want videos. I'm offering a happy medium between the rough stuff you get from the audience and a sexy videographer package! (recommended eventually!)

2. FOOTAGE & GRAPHICS

Same as option 1, but with graphics added, for example: logos, text to promote a show or release. Overlays if you like! Film grain effect etc.

Is £50 good?

For about 5 hours work?

What I do

I use a ZOOM H1 to capture audio, and a good quality smart phone. Often it is a mixture of these two that gets the best sound. The ZOOM catches more clarity, and the phone a bit more ambiance. I'm currently using an iPhone 13 which captures nice images, even in pretty low light. Your videos will be in standard 1080p, fine for social media, YouTube etc.

Typically, I'll spend a couple of hours setting up and shooting. I will travel and will only ask for the cost of my bus/train/fuel, not travel time. It usually takes two+ hours to edit the videos and the audio, and another hour or so formatting and exporting. If you want graphics, overlays etc, another couple of hours.

What you won't get!

A videographer will bring lighting, multiple cameras, and often a second camera op. They may offer 4K quality. They will work with the sound engineer or set up their own mics for excellent sound. They will spend a lot more time cutting between multiple angles, and they may offer to edit out a big plook on your nose. ;-)

Beyond the basic edit, I'll do a round of little changes if needed. But sizeable edits and re-rendering and transferring takes time. I'll let you know if something will cost more than the initial quote, and you can decide.

If you are hoping to mime to a recording for a music video - please consider that it's hard to do this well, with a single camera, unless you are excellent at miming. We'd typically need to shoot the same song at least 3 times, so not great at a live performance/gig.

What I'll ask

If your gig is for a promoter/agency, best to get their permission!

Your footage will be more interesting if I can get close to you and band members on the stage. If that might irritate your booker/agency please check, or if your audience have paid, give them a heads up what I'm doing, and assure that I won't be there all night!

If there's a bit of the set, or songs you want me to focus on for the best ad/social appeal, or If there's a band member with a super cool part, nod me before the song starts.

Avoid BEER and huge brand logos on stage IF you want to use any footage for paid adverts. Meta Ads (Insta/Fbook) will definitely pull videos if any booze brands are visible, and they can get fussy about a MASSIVE clothing logo if it's right across your chest. Editing these out is tedious!.

Free entry if it's a ticketed gig!

Why so cheap?

I used to work in TV & Film, years ago. I know how to frame a shot and make a decent edit. But I don't have the equipment or time to be a fully fledged videographer. It's a little side hussle.

As a long time gig wrangler, and music artist, I know how crap it can be trying to get decent footage (with decent sound) of your live shows, on a real budget. This is NOT a substitute for videography, but for smaller bands needing to get something quick and affordable to start off, or to promote gigs, it's a fraction of the price and, honestly, a much much simpler process, which is why I can make it low cost.

I've done this for a few years for bands I'm promoting or gigging with, and other people have started asking me for help. I've also hired a videography team for my own band. When you need that, you need that, and I won't undercut their work with quality cameras, multishoots, and lighting, for cheaps. I am a budget option, but not a shite one!
